Help Get Renee O'Connor Added to Disney A to Z

Help Get Renee O'Connor Added to the Next Edition of Disney A to Z: The Official Encyclopedia!

Being a Disney historian, I am a big fan of "Disney A to Z: The Official Encyclopedia".  Originally edited by Dave Smith, Steven Vagnini later took over updating the book.  I received the Sixth Edition this past Christmas and I always enjoy flipping to random entries to see what interesting information I will uncover.  Often I will refer to the book before I look online for the answers I need.

Disney A to Z Official Encyclopedia Sixth Edition

Recently I went down a rabbit role concerning the Disney Channel version of the "The Mickey Mouse Club".  During the first season, the very first serial aired on the show was "Teen Angel".  I recognized Renee O'Connor in it so I was interested to learn more about her connection to Disney.  I looked her up in my book and found- nothing.  I had access to a few of the previous editions and there was no entry in those as well.  Please join Walt Dated World's campaign to rectify this and with your help, we can get her added to the next print edition of the book and also have her included in the online version of Disney A to Z that’s part of the D23 website.  She is aware of my campaign and has no problem with it.

Teen Angel

Renee O'Connor and the cast of Teen Angel

“Teen Angel” aired as a season one segment on “The Mickey Mouse Club” from April 24 to May 19, 1989.  Renee portrayed Nancy Nichols, the love interest of Dennis Mullen (played by Adam Biesk) and received her first on-screen kiss.   A pre-"Beverly Hills, 90210" Jason Priestly played the guardian angel Buzz Gunderson.  All three of them appeared on the show as guests on May 19, 1989 (episode 20) and were interviewd by Roque Herring, Damon Pampolina and Mowava Pryor.  Renee was asked about her own high school prom and she said she was going with 15 other couples on a bus but also hedged her bets by saying she wished she could go with both Adam and Jason.  She also mentioned that she would be appearing on "Match Point", which would premier the following week on the show.

"Match Point" was the second serial during the first season and took place at a tennis camp.  It aired from May 22 to June 23, 1989.  It was more of an ensemble piece, with plots for all the cast members, not just the two rivals played by Brian Krause and Anthony Palermo.  Renee played the character Robin.  "Teen Angel" was filmed in Arizona according to IMDb and it's possible this serial was also shot there.

The Adventures of Huck Finn

Renee O'Connor and Anne Heche in Disney's Adventures of Huck Finn.

Renee played Julia Wilks in this adaptation of the Mark Twain novel.  It featured Anne Heche as her sister and Elijah Wood as Huck Finn.  Robbie Coltrane, Jason Robards and Ron Perlman also had featured roles.  The film opened on April 2, 1993 and did well at the box office, grossing $24 million.  Renee and Elijah both appeared at the 2025 Fanboy Expo in Knoxville and there is a picture of them together with a Huck Finn poster.

Response from Steven Vagnini, Walt Disney Archives

In the introduction to the "Disney A to Z" book, Steven Vagnini invites suggestions for new entries.  I emailed him in late May of 2024 asking that Renee be added to the next edition of the book but got an away message that he was on leave.  About a month later I received the following reply from him:

Greetings, Alison –

It is a pleasure to hear from you (and please pardon my delay, as I have recently returned to the office from leave). Thank you so much for these suggestions; they are wonderful considerations for Disney A to Z.

Thank you for again suggesting these, and I hope all is well.

Sincerely yours,
Steven
