(A note about shops: Many of the stores on Hollywood Boulevard still have external signs with the old retail names but go by a different name inside.)

SHOPS

Animation Gallery:  This shop was an Opening Day store and was located at the exit of the Animation Tour.  It closed August 23, 2015 and was replaced by Star Wars Launch Bay.

Buy the Book:  This store was tied into Ellen Degeneres's Ellen show.  The grand opening was attended by Joely Fisher and a cast member dressed up to look like David Anthony Higgins's character Joe from the show.  It opened October 2, 1996 and became The Writer's Stop in January of 1999.  

Calling Dick Tracy:  Formerly Pacific Electric Pictures, this short-lived shop opened May 26, 1990.  Guests could make their own Dick Tracy video.  It closed on January 12, 1991 and later became the first version of the Legends of Hollywood store.

The Costume Shop:  This shop opened on April 1, 1991 and sold Disney Villains merchandise.  The store closed in 1996 and became Buy The Book and later The Writer's Stop.

The Disney Studio Store:  Now simply called the Studio Store.


Golden Age Souvenirs:  This show was part of SuperStar Television and featured items from classic radio and TV.  It later was tied in to The American Idol Experience.  In 2015 it became Frozen Fractal Gifts.  

Lakeside News:  Souvenirs, comic books and old magazines were available at this news stand.

L.A. Cinema Storage (A.K.A. L.A Prop & Cinema Storage): Formerly the first incarnation of Legends of Hollywood, this shop was opened on May 1, 1991 and closed June 15, 2014.  It become the Trolley Car Cafe and was sponsored by Starbucks.  

Legends of Hollywood (original location):  Located on Hollywood Boulevard, this shop was open from January 19 through March 9 of 1991.  It later became L.A. Cinema Storage.  On June 19, 1994 a store with the Legends of Hollywood name opened on Sunset Boulevard.  

The Loony Bin: This shop featured cut outs of Roger Rabbit, Jessica, and the weasels.  Watch out for the steamroller that just crashed into the building and listen to boxes that contain various sound effects inside.  It sold gag gifts and closed in the fall of 1997 for Goosebumps HorrorLand.

The Muppet Store:  Lots of items with the Muppets.

Pacific Electric Pictures:  This shop was from Opening Day and allowed you to star in your own video or pick up some personalized merchandise.  It closed in 1990 and later became the Calling Dick Tracy shop.

Pluto's Toy Palace:  The neon sign of Pluto with a wagging tail remains near Mickey's of Hollywood.

The Princess Shoppe: Replaced Under the Sea in the Animation Courtyard.  It later became the costume shop In Character.  

Sid Cahuenga's One-of-a-Kind:  Sold authentic movie memorabilia and old Disney press books, movie posters and press kits.  It closed on November 16, 2013 to become a MyMagic+ service center.

Sights & Sounds:  Record your own music video!

Sweet Spells:  This candy shop was located in the Beverly Sunset Theater shop.  It was open from September 14, 1998 to April 15th, 2018.

Sweet Success:  A candy store that also featured M & M toys.  It was an Opening Day shop that closed in September of 1998, possibly so not to be confused with Sweet Spells.  It later became became Adrian and Edith's Head to Tow.

Under the Sea:  Featured Little Mermaid items from December 1, 1991 to June of 1996.  It later became The Princess Shoppe.  

Villains in Vogue:  Located on Sunset Boulevard from September 14, 1998 until June of 2015.

The Writer's Stop:  New name for Buy the Book starting in January of 1999.  It closed on April 2, 2016 and later became Baseline Tap House.

Youse Guys Moychindice:  A stand on New York Street/Streets of America that was open from 1990 until April 2, 2016.

RESTAURANTS

Cafeteria of the Stars: Later became Hollywood and Vine.

The Commissary: Also known as the Disney-MGM Studios Commissary Restaurant, it opened on December 16,1990.  It became the ABC Commissary on July 1, 1997.

Pizza Planet Arcade:  Toy Story themed restaurant/arcade that opened on December 15, 1995.  It closed on January 19, 2016 to become the Muppet-themed PizzeRizzo in the fall of 2016.


Studio Catering Co.: Sponsored by Coca-Cola, this show was located at the end of the Backstage Studio Tram tour.  It closed on April 2, 2016.  

Studio Pizzeria:  Later known as Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano, this restaurant opened on June 15th, 1991 and closed in September of the same year.
